Early morning specimen preferred. Preferred specimen is serum from plain red-top (nonserum separator) tube. Plasma also acceptable. Plasma specimen can be collected in any of the other tubes listed above. Serum separator tubes are not acceptable.
What to submit:
1 mL aliquot of serum or plasma; minimum 0.25 mL. Please submit a separate frozen aliquot for this test. It may not be combined with any other test requiring a frozen aliquot.
Patient preparation:
None.
 
Specimen Processing Instructions:
Serum: Allow to clot. Serum or plasma: Centrifuge 10 minutes at 3000 rpm. 1 mL aliquot of serum or plasma.
Transport temperature:
Frozen. Do not submit in glass tubes.
Specimen stability:
Room temperature: 4 days. Refrigerated: 4 days. Frozen: 4 weeks.
Rejection criteria:
Stability limits exceeded. Serum separator tubes not acceptable.
