Preserve with 25 mL 50% acetic acid (preferred) OR 30 mL 6N HCl OR boric acid. Mix well. Estimate total collection volume from 24-hour urine container. Remove required aliquot. Record total volume on both aliquot tube and request slip (if applicable).

20 mL aliquot of 24-hour urine preserved as above; minimum 10 mL.

Refrigerated (preferred) or frozen.
Specimen stability:
Room Temperature: 8 hours. Refrigerated: 7 days. Frozen: 30 days (-20°C).

Stability limits exceeded.

0.5-2.5 mg/24 hours: 1-2 years
1.0-4.0 mg/24 hours: 3-4 years
1.0-4.8 mg/24 hours: 5-6 years
1.0-5.6 mg/24 hours: 7-8 years
1.0-7.0 mg/24 hours: 9-10 years
1.5-8.0 mg/24 hours: 11-12 years
2.8-6.8 mg/24 hours: 13-16 year female
2.0-6.0 mg/24 hours: 13-16 year male
2.0-7.0 mg/24 hours: 17-20 year female
3.0-10.0 mg/24 hours: 17-20 year male
2.0-6.0 mg/24 hours: Adult female
