What to submit:
1 mL aliquot of plasma; minimum 0.2 mL
Patient preparation:
Specimen collected 1 hour after 50-gram glucose challenge. Fasting not required.
 
Specimen Processing Instructions:
Centrifuge at 1100-2000 g for a minimum of 10 minutes. 1 mL aliquot of plasma.
Transport temperature:
Refrigerated (preferred). Room temperature also acceptable.
Specimen stability:
Room temperature: 24 hours (spun or unspun). Refrigerated: 72 hours (spun or unspun).
Rejection criteria:
Stability limits exceeded.
 
Reference range:
70-129 mg/dL
Alert limits:
Glucose below 45, above 500 mg/dL
Additional information:
Test routinely performed during pregnancy.
