What to submit: |
1 mL aliquot of plasma for each time interval; minimum 0.2 mL for each time interval. |
Patient preparation: |
Dietary preparation of a 150 gm carbohydrate meal 12-16 hours prior to beginning test; 75 gm challenge dose of glucose given immediately after collection of the fasting specimen. |
Specimen Processing Instructions: |
Centrifuge at 1100-2000 g for a minimum of 10 minutes. 1 mL aliquot of plasma for each time interval. |

Room temperature: 8 hours. Refrigerated: 3 days. |

Stability limits exceeded. |
Reference range: |
Fasting plasma glucose (GLUFP): Normal 70-99 mg/dL, impaired tolerance 100-125 mg/dL, abnormal diabetic > or = 126 mg/dL. 2-hour post challenge (PCG): Normal 90-139 mg/dL, impaired tolerance 140-199 mg/dL, abnormal diabetic > or = 200 mg/dL. |

Glucose below 45, above 500 mg/dL. |
