Preferred specimen is 20 mL aliquot of 24-hour urine preserved with 25 mL of 50% acetic acid (preferred) or with 30 mL 6N HCl or 10 g boric acid. Mix well. Estimate total collection volume from 24-hour urine container. Remove required aliquot. Record total volume on both aliquot tube and request slip (if applicable). Also record patient's age and sex and date and time of collection. |
