Specimens must be collected on a time schedule (FBS, 0.5 hour, 1 hour, 1.5 hour, 2 hour, 3 hour, 4 hour and 5 hour).
What to submit:
1 mL aliquot of plasma for each time interval; minimum 0.2 mL.
Patient preparation:
Dietary preparation of a 150 gm carbohydrate meal 12-16 hours prior to beginning test; 75 gm challenge dose of glucose given immediately after collection of the fasting specimen.
 
Specimen Processing Instructions:
Centrifuge 10 minutes at 3000 rpm. 1 mL aliquot of plasma for each time interval
Transport temperature:
Refrigerated (preferred).
Specimen stability:
Room temperature: 8 hours. Refrigerated: 3 days.
Rejection criteria:
Stability limits exceeded.
