Dr. Paynton is an Associate of Geisinger Medical Laboratories at Geisinger Medical Center and the Scientific Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.

Education:

Dr. Paynton received her doctorate from Jefferson Medical College and completed an NIH post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Geisinger, she was an associate professor in the departments of Cell Biology and OB/GYN at the Weill Cornell Medical College and director of research in OB/GYN at Einstein Medical Center.

Research Interests

Dr. Paynton’s basic research interests have included transcriptional and post-translational regulation of gene expression in mammalian germ cells and embryos (which resulted in several publications and book chapters) and the identification of genes involved in tumorigenesis using array comparative genomic hybridization.  Her clinical focus at Geisinger is on molecular diagnostic approaches to genetics, virology, and oncology.
